French chateau Wedding

This gorgeous wedding was one I photographed at Chateau de Labro in South West France - Midi Pyrenees. I do travel abroad for weddings so if you are thinking of having destination wedding by all means get in touch. For 2021 I will be in Europe including France and Italy for weddings….But I get ahead of myself here is this gorgeous couple’s wedding story…..

The stars were coming out and the crescent moon was rising above the fields and illuminating the ancient trees in the grounds. There was a faint chill to the air after the hot sunshine of the day and the sound of laughter came from the open doors where candlelight and the smells of dinner were escaping. In the stillness of the night, there was a moment to look back at the day that had been Carly and Romain’s wedding……

Laughter, champagne, makeup and gifts during the getting ready and all Carly’s girls helping her into her dress. A moment of love between her mum and sister – the squeeze as they pulled each other tight. And then it was out to the boys, getting ready in an epic treehouse in the grounds of the chateau. Romain focused on getting ready too, broken by the comedy of the moment as one of his groomsmen literally helped to dust off his jacket, wearing slippers outside which didnt quite match the blacktie attire and the emotion as he read her letter.

Their first look, amongst the trees and the treasured moments as they saw each other for the first time and were in awe. So so lovely to see and document. The hugs and happiness just radiating from them. Holding each other tight and laughing. And then after a trip to Bescastel for some photographs (and who knew a motorbike tour would photobomb the tranquil setting) to vows said to each other in front of Chateau de Labro, conducted by a good friend and who was hugged at the end of the ceremony. And then amongst whoops, cheers, bubbles and rose petals they ran back down the aisle and were swamped by more hugs, kisses, tears and laughter from all their family and friends.

As evening fell and more champagne drunk, cigars lit and the dancing got crazy we crept out into the night for a few last photographs and to take everything in.

Most of these photographs are taken on film using my Contax 645 and Portra 400 rolls of film. The evening photos are pretty much all digital, shot on Canon with 85mm 1.2m Lens and 50mm 1.2m lens and EX flash. Shooting in both formats means you get the best of both worlds and FULL coverage during your wedding (even at night when its too dark to shoot on film).
